Network: The CW. Having spent the summer engaging common criminals with his new-found powers, Peter Parker must conceal his secret identity and battle super-villains in the real world. Peter must face off against his greatest enemy and friend, The Venom. Spider-Man loses the black suit, accidentally creating the Venom. Peter Parker struggles to get a date for the Fall Formal, and to figure out a way to pay for it.

Spiderman faces a new challenge, Mysterio, who claims to fight the evil effects of technology and seems to perform magic with Latin spells.
The episode was written and directed by the series developers, Greg Weisman and Victor Cook. The central idea was to follow Spider-Man in his younger years in the comics; Weisman and Cook wanted to incorporate the styles of the early comic publications by Lee and Ditko. Reviewers have cited other influences in the themes, such as the live action film series and the Ultimate Spider-Man continuity. It had previously been shown to a large audience at the WonderCon. The episode was the highest rated program of the Kids WB!
